Active week 2019This years active week will take place from June 17th-21st. This is our 3rd annual Active Week and is always a great success so we are really looking forward to it. The children will be doing lots of fun activities and must wear their tracksuits and runners every day.
We are very lucky to have Dunboyne Athletic Club on board again this year. They will be facilitating a relay marathon for the 1st and 2nd class children on Friday June 21st at the Athletics track. A big thank you to Keith and his team of volunteers for their continued support. We will be starting each day from Monday to Thursday with a whole school walk around the Senior school and their field. The teachers will bring the children from their lines, any parents in the yard are welcome to join us. We are looking forward to welcoming Ken and his team from Golden Tiger academy this year. They will be doing activities with every class on Monday. We are also very lucky to have Dr. Sarah Jane Belton and her team from DCU to do some fundamental movement skills activities with the 1st class children. Our GPO Teresa Molohan has been working hard all year coaching the 1st and 2nd class children in GAA and is once again facilitating a blitz for the children to practice the skills they have learned. We are extremely grateful for all of the local support this year. The Junior and Senior Infant children will go on a walk to the village playground and have time to play there. Other activities include an obstacle course, sports day races and games in the courtyard. Our Active Week always concludes with our whole school dance in the infant yard on Friday. All of the children take part and it is always a memorable way to celebrate the end of Active Week. The song for this year’s dance is ‘I like to move it’. I have copied the YouTube link for the dance below for the children to practice at home. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymigWt5TOV8 There will be no written homework next week and instead the children will do active homework. Please see email for some ideas but feel free to choose your own activities too. Hopefully the weather will be good and the whole family can get active. Looking forward to a great week! |
