Dunboyne Junior Primary School recently was awarded another Green Flag and Active Flag and on June 27th the whole school took part in the celebration of raising these flags.
Green flags are an international symbol of a school’s environmental sustainability and are awarded to schools for helping children to become more environmentally responsible. The Department of Education and skills awards the Active Schools Flag to schools that strive to achieve a physically active school community. The awards of these accolades are testament to the hard work of both the Active School Committee and Green School Committee and of course their co-ordinators Ms. Karen Ruane, Ms. Maire Healy and Ms. Caroline Mannion. We would like to convey our thanks to Teresa Molohan, Games Promotion Officer, Dunboyne GAA who co-ordinated coaching our Second Classes in skills of GAA football and we had great weather for a change and the activity was enjoyed by all. Also we would like to thank the children from the Senior School who lead our class groups in daily exercise.
The pupils celebrated their achievements!

This year Active School Week will take place from April 23rd-27th. We hope to build on what was an extremely successful inaugural ASW last year. Activities planned for this year include tennis, athletics, yoga, obstacle course, sports day races, whole school dance, skipping workshop, staff step challenge and lots lots more. Our Active committee are busy getting ready for what promises to be a great week. Fingers crossed for some good weather!!

Just to let you know that next week is Active Week in the Junior school. We had our very first active week last year and it was a great success so we are really looking forward to next week. The children will be doing lots of fun activities and must wear their tracksuits every day.
We are very lucky to have Dunboyne Athletics Club on board again this year. They will be providing lots of fun activities for the 1st and 2nd class children on Friday April 27th at the Athletics track. A big thank you to them for their continued support.
As you may know April is Autism Awareness month. In support of this we are having a whole school walk on Wednesday morning at 9.30. All the children will take part and parents are welcome also. We would like everyone to wear blue on the day for Autism. It will be a short walk just around the Senior School and football field.
The children will also take part in a whole school dance in the yard. This was a higlight last year when everyone did the Cha Cha Slide. This year's dance is to the song Better when I'm Dancing. I have copied the link to the youtube video of the dance routine if the children want to practice at home.

There will be no written homework next week and instead the children will do active homework. Please see the attachment for some ideas but feel free to chose your own activities too. Hopefully the weather will be good and the whole family can get active.
Looking forward to a great week
Many thanks
