Green Schools

We are working towards our Biodiversity Flag

Picture
The work for our new flag was halted twice due to school closures but with spring upon us we hope to further develop our school garden over the coming months to enhance and increase the Biodiversity in our school.

During lockdown last year our lovely school garden became very overgrown and wild but Ger leading our Garden Committee and the Green School Committee have come to the rescue! We are busy getting ready to plant vegetables and flowers, particularly pollinators, to attract the bees to our garden with the help of Deirdre O' Carroll and some of the classes. Everyone is doing a super job and our garden is starting to come back to life.
Beautiful birdboxes can be seen in our garden made by Mr Mc Cormack's class last year and we will be adding more bug hotels and other features to attract more birds and insects to our garden.

Many classes in the school recently have been busy planting seeds, some of which will be added to the garden when they begin to grow. The children are learning the stages of growth from seed to fully grown plant and also what a plant needs to grow.

Keep watching this space for updates!
