active walkway launch
We are delighted to announce that our brand new Active Walkway is officially open. The children will all get to experience the walkway for the first time this week during active week. On Monday morning we officially opened our Active Walkway in the school garden. Ms. Ruane's class provided the countdown and Niamh, Emily and Isabella from the Active School Committee were on hand to cut the ribbon. We are so happy with this new addition to our school. Find out more about it in the 'Active School' tab.
FACEBOOK COMMUNITY ACTION GRANT
We were very excited recently to learn that we are one of the recipients of this year's 'Facebook Community Action Grant'. We have been awarded the sum of €16,000 through this grant. This substantial funding will be invaluable in helping us acquire more technology for the school. It will mean that the children will have a little more access to technology as they advance through classes in the Junior School. Thank you Facebook! A Big Thank You also to Kathleen Dolan and Carol Dougan for all their hard work with the application.
Our junior classes have also began using our new set of Lenova tablets. They love exploring the phonics and number apps as well as learning the basic functions of the tablets.

We all celebrated Saint Patrick's day and combined with our intercultural day everyone dressed up, some in our traditional green and others representing their native country. A beautiful day enjoyed by all. Pictures of the day are on school events gallery.

Outdoor and Adventure Letter Sound Hunt
The boys and girls from Junior and Senior Infants have been having lots of fun hunting for their letter sounds in the garden. They brought their clipboards and ticked off each letter as they found it. Super work boys and girls.

Our new Daily Mile flag
We are very proud in Dunboyne Junior School to have received a new flag for our school. On Friday December 18th we raised our new Daily Mile flag. The Daily Mile is a running initiative that is simple and free. It gets the children out of the class for 10 minutes every day to run or jog at their own pace with their classmates, making them fitter, healthier and more able to concentrate in the classroom. We have been participating in The Daily Mile for 2 years now and it has become an integral part of the school day.
To celebrate today we had a very special Santa Daily Mile where all the staff and children wore Santa hats and ran one big lap of the yards. The children really enjoyed it and the Active Committee children from 1st and 2nd class did a fantastic job of leading the classes around the yard. Our Daily Mile flag is now flying high beside our Active flag. Well done to all the boys and girls for taking part.

We are taking part in the' Active Break Every Day Challenge' which we started on November 9th and will run for 4 weeks. We commit to doing at least one active break every day in school. This might be a running, dancing or exercise break. We are committed to helping reduce the amount of time that children are sedentary. Having active breaks throughout the day is fun and it helps with our concentration and focus.

Send send love to local care homes with Community Focus
Here's a selection of cards sent by Second class children to Dunboyne Nursing Home and Silvergrove Nursing Home in Clonee. This is a wonderful initiative by An Post and at a difficult time, this is a fantastic way for our school to show vulnerable members of our community how much they are still valued and loved.
