Autism Class Enrolment
Our Autism class provides a specialist, supportive learning environment for pupils who meet the Department of Education and National Council for Special Education (NCSE) criteria for an autism special class placement.
Step 1: Contact the NCSE
There is a national procedure for applying for a place in a special class. Parents/guardians must notify the NCSE that their child needs a special class placement.
You can do this by emailing: parentsnotify@ncse.ie.
You will be asked to provide:
- A signed consent form
- Professional reports (including diagnosis and recommendations)
Step 2: What happens next?
After you email the NCSE:
- You will receive an acknowledgement from the NCSE Service Delivery Support Team.
- Your documents will be checked and sent to your local NCSE Regional Team.
- The team will check if your child meets the eligibility criteria for a special class place.
- Your local SENO will contact you to discuss your child’s needs and placement options.
- You will receive written feedback that you can share with schools as part of your application.
