Birthday Celebrations and Party Invitations

As you may be aware, it is long‑standing school practice that invitations to birthday parties are not distributed by children during the school day. If your family is organising a party, we kindly ask that any invitations are shared by parents/guardians, outside of school hours and not on school premises. This helps us protect the feelings of all pupils and avoid situations where some children may feel excluded.

While it is completely natural for children to be excited about a party and to chat with their friends about it, distributing invitations in class can unintentionally lead to upset or disappointment for children who may not receive one. For this reason, we ask that children are not given invitations to hand out in school.

Birthdays are a special occasion in the lives of children. However, in a school setting it is important to celebrate them in a way that is inclusive, respectful and keeps the main focus of the school day on teaching and learning. Teachers will always acknowledge a child’s birthday in an age‑appropriate way — for example, the class may sing “Happy Birthday” or mark the occasion with a simple classroom gesture.

We know that many families like to mark birthdays with special treats. However, we ask that parents and guardians do not send cakes, sweets, treats or party bags into school. This helps us maintain our healthy‑eating policymanage allergies safelyensure consistency across all classes, and keep classroom time focused on teaching and learning. If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday with treats, we encourage you to do so at home or at their party instead.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping us create a positive and inclusive environment for every child.
